On 18th September 1996, SoftQuad International announced a new era in Web publishing by launching an intranet publishing product for Windows called "the HoTMetaL Intranet Publisher" (HiP).
HiP defines a new paradigm for building corporate intranets by empowering webmasters and users with a "state-of-the-art" product to create, publish and manage interactive Web content, while providing end users with the ability to access internet-based information in a more productive and dynamic way. There are four essential intranet publishing components of HiP:
Softquad are shipping HoTMetaL Intranet Publisher in Q4 1996. The suggested list price is $395.00 US and the HiP Pilot Pak, a starter package that includes HiP with a license for additional 4 HiP browser add-ons has a suggested list price of $495.00. SoftQuad will announce pricing, including details about its site licensing agreements for the HiP viewer add on, when the product ships.
On 18th September 1996, SoftQuad announced the Intranet VAR Program. The program is designed to help VARs use the new HoTMetaL Intranet Publisher product to grow their Intranet Business by providing qualified VARs with sales and product training, sales and marketing materials, priority technical support and product discounts.
VARs qualify for reduced pricing for SoftQuad products and will also benefit from a named account manager.

SoftQuad has entered into agreement with IBM and Sun for bundling HoTMetaL with the RS/6000 Web Server Software Sampler CD and the Solaris[TM] Internet Access PlusPack. They have also announced that AST Computer's new servers and business computers will feature a built-in version of HoTMetaL Light.
HoTMetaL Light gives users the power to easily create web pages and familiarize themselves with the process of Web publishing. HoTMetaL Light users can upgrade to HoTMetaL PRO for $69 (U.S.) at SoftQuad's Web site http://www.softquad.com or by callling Tel: +1 800 360 8454.
HoTMetaL PRO 3.0 is also available for resellers through Ingram, and retailers.
HoTMetaL 3.0 has a list price of $159 (U.S.) and runs on Windows 3.xx, Windows 95, and Windows NT. The Macintosh and UNIX versions were released in the Summer. HoTMetaL 3.0 is designed to take Web publishing to new levels and supports all HTML tags from Netscape and Microsoft and also Java, Shockwave and ActiveX applications. It also includes templates such as CGI scripts, clipart and tutorials.
On 8th August 1996 SoftQuad Inc. announced that Compuserve has chosen to deliver SoftQuad's HoTMetaL web publishing product into their distribution channels throughout Europe. Compuserve will integrate HoTMetaL Light into CompuServe Introductory membership Packs. Subscribers can also download HoTMetaL Light in several European languages from CompuServe's secure FTP site.
